I have studied music since I was 4 years old. And given that my mother was a music teacher, it was something that was a huge part of my childhood.
As a child, I trained in “the classical style”. That’s right: loads of scales and dull theory — not a great deal of fun.
Being able to play your favorite pieces easily without taking years to master them is what music should be about. So as I developed my own teaching studio on the Sunshine Coast. And I made it a priority to create a teaching style that did not involve tedious scales, dry music theory or boring exercises.
After all, nobody wants to learn the piano so that they can play scales! I start all of my new students off with “easy play” music for beginners, so they can basically play a song after their first lesson.
Advanced lessons are for those who have studied piano earlier in life. But I teach a brilliant, simple, chord-based course which enables you to play and sound fantastic very quickly.
I have been teaching for 38 years, and it’s so good to see people achieve success learning to play their favorite songs at any age. Usually this is a dream they have always wanted to achieve, and thought they never could.
It is a fabulous hobby on so many levels, from learning to play a musical instrument, to meeting new friends in our classes.
It has actually been proven that learning music is an incredible way to keep the mind sharp, and even helps to prevent diseases of aging such as dementia. It is so good to see the older generation keep up with technology by using the Clavinovas and USB devices.
It really opens up a whole new world to them. Originally, I taught electronic organ and piano for many years until digital pianos and Clavinovas, were introduced to the market by Yamaha.
These instruments make it so easy to sound like a pro! I have won numerous awards over the years from all major musical suppliers such as Yamaha, Casio and Orla for service and commitment to my customers.
And this year I was named Retail Business of The Year, and Customer Service Retailer of the year.
But dedication to my music, my students and my instruments has been the real key to my success.
I really do have a passion for music. And a passion to help my students see how easy it can be to play well, fast.
We offer a high level of after sales service, not only with lessons but free workshops to make sure that our customers know how to play. This is just so important. There is nothing worse than bringing home a brand new instrument, and not understanding how to get the best out of it.
Apart from teaching people from all walks of life to play, I am equally passionate about Yamaha Clavinovas.
And I look forward to many years of teaching others how rewarding it can be to play like a pro.
